Muscat City Tour Half Day
The half day tour begins with a visit to the beautiful Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the Middle East, and the only mosque open to non-Muslims and expatriates in Oman. Later we will drive along the picturesque Muttrah Corniche and visit Muttrah Souq, a traditional market which retains the organised chaos of a traditional Arab market even though it is now housed under modern timber roofing. You will be able to stroll through the Souq, where you will have the chance to buy Omani specialties like Frankincense, ceremonial Omani daggers, silk scarves, silver items, spices and handicrafts. You can also try your hand at bargaining with the vendors to get a good price, and your guide will be on hand to help
You will also be able to enjoy a moment along the Corniche and admire the various cruise ships on the water at Mina Al Sultan Qaboos Port, possibly including His Majesty’s Royal Yacht. You will then visit Bait Al Zubair Museum where the Museum tour will provide you with a wealth of information about the country’s structure, tradition and heritage. Then it will be time to have a photo stop at the official residence of his Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, the Al Alam Palace, which is flanked by the 16th century Portuguese forts of Mirani and Jalali. Unfortunately, it is not possible to enter the gates. From the Palace, you will travel through the old town, here you will pass some of the original houses, before arriving at the majestic viewing point of Gulf of Oman for a photo stop in the Qantab region before heading back to the hotel.
Please note that a strict conservative dress code applies within Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
